	More Information The first version of PowerBasic for DOS was 2.0 (published in 1989) as a successor to Borland's TurboBasic (1985). To date, the latest release was version 3.5 (1997). While PB/DOS is extremely efficient and can give many other DOS programming languages a run for their money, the advent of Windows systems make it unlikely that there will be a version 4.0 PB/CC, the console compiler, was built for console applications -- in other words, text mode. While a text mode windows program may not 'look' like a true windows program to many, it does have clear benefits over a regular DOS file: you have full access to the windows API, and can take advantage of interfacing with many of the windows system functions. Great for making commandline utilities, and a good upgrade path for many legacy DOS programs. PB/WIN is also a windows compiler, but instead of being centered around the textmode console, it has full support to create programs with a Graphical User Interface. Like PB/CC it gives full access to the windows API, and is blazing fast. It can create DLL files, which can be used again with other programming languages as well. Originally PB/WIN was named PB/DLL, but since it can also be used to write full-fledged applications, this was later changed to PB/WIN.
